Domain drop date checker

When does a domain drop? The registry's expiry date and the extension's lifecycle give the day the name becomes free to register.

How a domain drops

expiry date drop, +80 days registered grace redemption pending free again 45 days 30 days 5 days registrar may renew or auction owner only, with a fee no way back
The .com lifecycle: the longest a name can take from its expiry date to the drop.

A domain is not deleted the day it expires. It passes through three phases first.

Grace: up to 45 days for .com. The registrar may renew the name for the owner or sell it at auction.

Redemption: 30 days. Only the previous owner can get the name back, at a fee.

Pending delete: 5 days with no way back. Then the name drops, anyone can register it, and backorder services try to catch it the second it goes.

Country-code extensions have their own timings. The drop schedule lists them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the drop date exact? No. The registry gives the expiry date, and a registrar may act earlier within the phases. Once a name is in pending delete, the date is reliable to the day.

How many lookups can I run? 10 a day for free, 25 with the free drops digest, 200 as a member.
