How a .codes name drops

  1. Expiry: the registrar can renew the name for up to 45 days (the auto-renew grace period). Most registrars auction it or list it for sale during this window.
  2. Redemption: the name is then held for 30 days in which only the previous owner can restore it, at a fee.
  3. Pending delete: 5 more days with no way back, then the name drops and anyone can register it. Backorder services race for it at the drop.

SEO notes for .codes

.codes is a generic extension: Google does not tie it to a country, so you can geo-target a site on it to any market in Search Console, or leave it global.

Of the .codes names Majestic has scored, 12% carry Trust Flow 10 or more and 1% reach 20. 0.6% of the list is flagged for a spammy or adult name; the spam filters (TF/CF ratio, anchor text, language) catch most of the rest before you bid.

.codes questions

Can anyone register a .codes domain?

None. Anyone, anywhere, can register a .codes name; no residency or business requirement.

What happens when a .codes domain expires?

Expiry: the registrar can renew the name for up to 45 days (the auto-renew grace period). Most registrars auction it or list it for sale during this window. Redemption: the name is then held for 30 days in which only the previous owner can restore it, at a fee. Pending delete: 5 more days with no way back, then the name drops and anyone can register it. Backorder services race for it at the drop.

How do I buy an expiring .codes domain?

Bid in the registrar auction where the name is listed (Namecheap, DynaDot, DropCatch, Name.com), buy it at the fixed price when it has one, or place a backorder so a drop-catching service registers it for you the moment it drops. Every row on DomCop links to the listing and shows the metrics before you spend anything.

How often is the .codes list updated?

New listings and drop lists are loaded through the day and the metrics (Majestic, Moz, Ahrefs, Open PageRank, SEMrush and more) are fetched as each name arrives; availability is re-checked on a ladder after a listing ends.

How many .codes domains are expiring right now?

517 .codes names are in the list at the moment, 77 of them ending in the next 24 hours.

Every single day since 2014 I log onto DomCop.com and look for valuable expiring domain names. Literally. I've found so many great domains there that I've either put into my domain investing portfolio, built on and created a revenue generating site that I later sold, or used in my efforts to create other valuable websites. I cannot recommend this tool enough--it is robust and powerful, and I easily filter out the thousands of terrible expiring names to consistently find the diamonds.
