How a .rocks name drops

  1. Expiry: the registrar can renew the name for up to 45 days (the auto-renew grace period). Most registrars auction it or list it for sale during this window.
  2. Redemption: the name is then held for 30 days in which only the previous owner can restore it, at a fee.
  3. Pending delete: 5 more days with no way back, then the name drops and anyone can register it. Backorder services race for it at the drop.

SEO notes for .rocks

.rocks is a generic extension: Google does not tie it to a country, so you can geo-target a site on it to any market in Search Console, or leave it global.

Of the .rocks names Majestic has scored, 13% carry Trust Flow 10 or more and 4% reach 20. 1.3% of the list is flagged for a spammy or adult name; the spam filters (TF/CF ratio, anchor text, language) catch most of the rest before you bid.

.rocks questions

Can anyone register a .rocks domain?

None. Anyone, anywhere, can register a .rocks name; no residency or business requirement.

What happens when a .rocks domain expires?

Expiry: the registrar can renew the name for up to 45 days (the auto-renew grace period). Most registrars auction it or list it for sale during this window. Redemption: the name is then held for 30 days in which only the previous owner can restore it, at a fee. Pending delete: 5 more days with no way back, then the name drops and anyone can register it. Backorder services race for it at the drop.

How do I buy an expiring .rocks domain?

Bid in the registrar auction where the name is listed (Namecheap, DynaDot, GoDaddy, DropCatch), buy it at the fixed price when it has one, or place a backorder so a drop-catching service registers it for you the moment it drops. Every row on DomCop links to the listing and shows the metrics before you spend anything.

How often is the .rocks list updated?

New listings and drop lists are loaded through the day and the metrics (Majestic, Moz, Ahrefs, Open PageRank, SEMrush and more) are fetched as each name arrives; availability is re-checked on a ladder after a listing ends.

How many .rocks domains are expiring right now?

552 .rocks names are in the list at the moment, 102 of them ending in the next 24 hours.

Since starting SEO back in 2009, it has become very difficult to rank brand new domains. Unless you are building a brand, it's highly recommended that you start every new money site with an expired domain. Additionally, if you're building a PBN, you should only consider using expired domains. The problem is good domains start at $50 a piece, and anyone charging less is either full of sh*t or selling garbage domains, and I mean that. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. DomCop has a great offer that all of you buying expired domains should consider. For the price of a couple domain names, you can use DomCop for a month, snag some excellent domain names, which would otherwise cost you thousands of dollars. If you're considering expired domain software and don't have the knowledge to program your own crawler, I'd lean towards DomCop.
